Social media is a great way to reach patients and potential patients. However, it has to be remembered that it is ‘social’ because it is a conversation, and as such requires more than one voice. Don’t just talk at people – ask them their thoughts and opinions – engage with them. Only by asking questions of your patients can you find out what they want and how you can improve. (We always welcome any comments or suggestions that you have on our blog, Facebook or Twitter updates – simply let us know!) Many dentists are concerned about these opinions being out in the open. To that, all I would say is that they are already formed and you can only deal with them if you are aware of them. If you deal with a niggle or concern to the satisfaction of the patient concerned ,then both they and other patients’ perception of your practice will improve beyond measure.
